The chateau was built between 1810 and 1812 by Prince John I of Liechtenstein, and Josef Hardtmuth was commissioned to build it. In the 1960s, a game reserve was established around the chateau, in which the Liechtensteins raised deer and fallow deer. After 1945, the castle found itself in the border zone with a ban on entry and was ravaged by the army. At present, the reconstructed chateau is privately owned and inaccessible to the public.
