Today's monumental castle dates back to the mid-19th century. Originally there was a Gothic fortress, which was rebuilt in the 16th century into a Renaissance castle. At that time, the scenery of today's Lednice-Valtice ponds was also built. The chateau was rebuilt in the 17th century by Karel Eusebius of Liechtenstein, who completely transformed the existing park. Dividing the area into six large squares with terraces and fountains gave it an artificial character. Eusebio's reconstruction created a baroque chateau together with a riding school, built in the years 1688 -1690 according to the design of Jan Bernard Fischer of Erlach, who was replaced by Domenico Martinelli. In the years 1772 - 1776, the chateau was rebuilt, this time in the Classicist style, and instead of the demolished Gothic church of St. Jakub was added to the old castle as its wing of the castle chapel of St. Jakuba with the opposite residential wing. This created an honorary court, which has survived to this day. The last stage of building work began with the reconstruction of the garden wing of the castle in the Empire style in 1815 by architect Kornhäusel and ended with a monumental reconstruction of the castle in 1846-1858 according to the design of the young Viennese architect Jiří Wingeműller in pseudo-Gothic style (replaced by Jan Heidrich). Visitors admire, among other sights, the selfsupporting spiral stairs, the rare relief of the tree of life made of ivory, coffered ceilings in the dining and dance hall part of the furniture.
Parking is about 150 meters from the castle.
